I KNOW HARD WORK

I've seen it first hand

web developer

Welcome!

Yes, welcome to robertgripenberg.com! I, Robert Gripenberg, am a web developer from Helsinki, Finland. I have intended this site to be not only a showroom but also a kind of scrapbook for me to collect and show stuff to other people. This is not a blog though. I will not write 5000 word posts about how I feel today or how much I like cats.

Incase you want to know a bit about this site I can tell you it is not based on any CMS (as you probably can tell). This mainly because I was to cheap to pay for webhosting with database. So, I ended up with this solution: A long , well maybe not yet, list of stuff I've done with an easy navigation bar at the top. Every "post" is included separately by php, makeing the site easy to update.

Education

I study at Arcada - Nylands svenskafolkhögskola majoring in Media Technology.
My studies have mostly been focused on web development. The program being an engineering degree also covers some physics and mathematics, audio and video technology and practical courses such as working in a recording studio or basic film production.
Click here if you want to see me ranting about the education program (in swedish).

FROM THE PAST - "the experience"

Here is a list of employers, companies I have worked for as a freelancer. Click on their logo to go to their pages. If you go, be sure to give them my best regards and thank them, on my behalf, for the cooperation!

Tips & Tricks

This is a section where I present some fun tips, tricks and general ideas that I've come up with / found elsewhere on the web. After all, one should be all about sharing. The links below will take you to a separate page where one thing per page will be presented. The source should be easy enough to read.
N.B! These are ideas and concepts. They are neighter tweaked nor polished. I can not guarantee that they work on every browser. I have not tuned them yet but they should work in Chrome. If I implement them on a future sites, I will add links to them.

If you found some ideas on this site I would like to hear how you used them! Contact me!

and then there was... Randomness

From here on downwards I've listed some random stuff that I've done, been apart of or maybe just like or want to share. Some of the stuff is pure nonsence but might give a little insight in.. Well, me I guess.

NHL Stats - Private Project

At a point of time I found myself with a bit too much time on my hands. Fortunately for me, I wasn't the only one. I started to play some NHL06 on Playstation 2 with my friends. Competition got fierce and we needed pure facts to settle disputes on who was reigning champion.
No, it wasn't that serious. Never the less I thought it would be fun to keep track of games played, who has won the most, which team is the best one and so on... That's when I got the idea to develop the statistics system. I had one constraining factor though. Since I was a bit greedy when hiring this server space, I didn't pay for the optional MySQL database. So, I had to keep the stats in a plain text file.
This was good for me though, since this gave me the chance to play more around with php. Looping through strings and placing them into arrays. The "system" is fully functional, we use it on a regular basis. It is not safe enough to place here for you to see though, I don't want any malicious sanitize testers to try and feed crap into my lists before I am satisfied with my filters.

Here are some screenshots though and if you really really really want to see the real deal, let me know.

SFS - Sannfinlandssvenskarna

You might wonder: "WTF is SFS?". SFS is an abbreviation of Sannfinlandssvenskarna (the true "fenno-sweds"). This is a concept that me and Jonas Lemberg came up with in the spring of 2009. You see, back then a new populist party had just become mainstream here in Finland. That party is known as "the true finns". When they became known to the public they were first not taken seriously, by anyone really. They were just seen an "rednecks", narrow minded, basic true finns? Anyway, we came up the idea to make a campaign add for a ultra fenno-swedish party. Playing and making satire of all the stereotypes about us swedish speaking finns. So, we wound up with two characters: Bosse and Challe. Both filthy rich, arrogant and keen on alcohol.

Here is some other material made for the SFS project. A couple of posters and a DVD-cover:

Animated .gif test

Ver cool animated gif!

Just to try out how you make an animeted gif, this image was produced. Animated .gif's aren't that cool anymore, much like NMT phones, never the less it's was a fun little time killer. This image was made in 2008 to pimp up a site made for a school project.

This fine little piece of nostalgia was made in PhotoShop and is based on a background (google-image ripped) and a photo of me stalking pidgeons in northern Kirkkonummi, Finland.
